The IFSA-Butler in México Program has been in operation since 2004. It is one of the 6 current sites IFSA-Butler University holds in Latin America.
Truthful to our commitment to offering a complete culture and language immersion option, this is a direct-enrollment program that offers all the tools to allow students to immerse themselves completely into the local life and culture.
Currently, the program’s only site in Mexico is in located in South East of the country, in the city of Mérida, the capital of the State of Yucatán and one of the most interesting and diverse cities in Mexico. Students in this program take courses at the local public university, the Autonomous University of Yucatán. UADY is home to 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students; it is a comprehensive university, where students can enroll, along with the local Mexican students, in any of UADY’s 15 different colleges.
To facilitate and ease adjustment into the local culture, the IFSA-Mexico Office provides local support for students in all matters, academic and non-academic, such as; immigration issues, housing with local families, local social events, arts and traditions and life in México. This process is initiated upon arrival, through a two-week long on-site orientation program, where students have the opportunity to start to put their learning into the local context. This orientation is designed to ensure a successful, stress-free time in Mérida and so students can obtain the best of their study abroad experience.
Enjoy your time in Mérida and remember that part of this time is learning to live and accept things that are new and different!
